Service Projects & Fundraisers:

September is a full month of Books from Kids to Kids. Drop boxes are placed in 9 locations, and three members check them weekly. The club cleans the books and distributes them to Head Start, Girls Inc., Family Services Center, Child Advocacy Center and a new school. Adult books are taken to Middleton Trans Home and House of Ruth. Participating businesses received a framed Certificate of Appreciation. Also in September, we co-sponsor Run for Literacy that is headed by our local newspaper.

In October, we give money to the Trans Home patients so they can go to the local fair. We have worked with these residents for many years. Some of the activities include: Games, cook-outs, fruit and Christmas presents, planting things and trying to get them interested in the plants. There are currently 13 residents and our club stays in contact with them at least six months of the year.

Each February, the following professional and business clubs have a joint meeting: Zonta, Pilot, American Business Women and Altrusa. We were hostess in 2002. We give scholarships, donate to the Wiregrass Childrens Homes, and sponsored a child for Hospice Camp. The Hospice Camp is for children who are having difficulty getting over losing a family member.

The biggest fund raising activities are the Houston County Pageants. This past April we completed the 20th annual Big and Little Miss Pageants and added two more pageants. March and April are busy planning and executing our annual pageants. In May, the winners are invited to an awards banquet. The Big Queens receive a letter for receipt of scholarship when they attend college. Little Queens receive a savings bond.
