Nashville, TN

Club History:

The Nashville Altrusa club has the distinction of being the very first Altrusa club Nashville is the birthplace of Altrusa. We commemorate the birth of Altrusa every year with a small celebration; however, on Altrusas 85th anniversary in 2002, we held a special luncheon, which was attended by District Four officers and Altrusa alumni. We also presented the Metro Parks Department with a check to be used for the purchase of flowering dogwood trees to plant on Centennial Parks Flagpole Hill. A past District Governor, a past District Secretary, and a past District Treasurer call the Nashville club home.

Club Meetings:

Our meetings are held monthly, on the third Thursday. We all have dinner together and enjoy a program, either community service or something of interest to women. Whatever were doing, whether it is service projects, celebrating Altrusa, or just having dinner, we have a good time. Drop in and visit us sometime in Nashville!

Service Projects & Fundraisers:
  • We conduct an annual used book drive, during which we collect childrens books, in good condition, to donate to childrens charities. We had a very successful drive this year, collecting over 700 books we donated them to the McNeilly Center for Children, located in the inner city; and The Hero Program for Metro Schools, which assists homeless children in the Nashville school system.
  • We also donated toys to the Martha OBryan Center for their annual toy store, a Christmas project in which low-income families may shop for new toys at drastically discounted prices.
