Club History:

Altrusa International, Inc. of Oak Ridge was founded in 1949 and chartered in 1955.

Club Meetings:

The Oak Ridge Club meetings are held on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 1051 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, in the Activities Building. There is a short business meeting, lunch is served and is followed by a short program. In the months that have five Wednesdays, the club often gathers informally at a member's home for fun, food and fellowship.

Service Projects & Fundraisers:
  • Aid to Distressed Families of Anderson County (ADFAC) - Provides contributions and personal articles to help disadvantaged residents.
  • Altrusa Scholarship - Awards scholarships, including the Sarah Ketron Memorial, to re-entry women based on financial need, academic achievement, and extracurricular activities. Planned activities, such as mentoring, will continue to focus on re-entry women.

  • International - Offers an annual luncheon program to promote international friendship, communication, and understanding; and maintains membership in the local United Nations Club.
  • Leadership Oak Ridge - Provides tuition for one or more members to participate in the ten-week series of workshops to train new leaders in the rowth and development of Oak Ridge.
  • Literacy - Sponsors Literacy Luncheon and other projects, such as tutoring.
  • Vocational Guidance - Sponsors career enhancement programs for members and the community.
  • Altrusa Foundation of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Inc - Supports the Club's literacy and community service projects as a non-profit corporation. Contributions to the Altrusa Foundation are tax deductible.
  • Partners In Education. Supports the Oak Ridge Schools Preschool Program by donating books, volunteering in classrooms, adopting a holiday Angel Tree family, and participating in programs.
