Shreveport, LA

Club History:

The Shreveport Club was organized on April 19, 1927. They have 28 active and 4 emeritus members.

Club Meetings:

Business meetings are held the first Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m. at St. Luke's United Methodist Church. Luncheon meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month at noon at the University Club.

Service Projects & Fundraisers:

The club stays busy with several projects. One of their biggest service projects is their work with their local Children's Advocacy Center. The club is also involved with the Lighthouse After School Program, YWCA, Dress For Success and other community services as the need arises. The club also sponsors two ASTRA clubs, one of which has over 200 members. The club keeps in close contact with the girls and offers scholarships to ASTRA members. In addition to the ASTRA scholarships, the club gives a vocational scholarship each year.

Fundraising also keeps the members busy. Their primary fundraiser is their "Civic and Cultural Events Calendar" which keeps the community informed about area events and also keeps the community aware of Altrusa! Another fundraiser is a Book Fair held at the Shreveport Barnes & Noble Booksellers, as well as gift wrapping events at the bookstore in December.
